10 COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN USING EYELID MARGIN SCRUB BRUSH 🔍

A Fresh, Practical Guide for Your Eye Care Routine

Here are the common questions to troubleshoot using EYELID MARGIN SCRUB BRUSH in your blepharitis / Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) eye care routine. If you don't know about my "SCRUB" step . . . check it out here! Also available on Amazon.

1. How Long Does It Take to Master the Technique?

  • Practice Makes Perfect: It's not going to be as easy as you think the first few times. My patients say it takes 5-10 times before they really get the hang of it.

2. What Kind of Eye Reactions Should I Expect?

  • Normal Responses: The eye may water, blink excessively, feel ticklish, or experience some discomfort. These reactions are all perfectly normal and expected.

3. Is Redness After a Scrub Session a Concern?

  • Temporary Redness: Red eyelid margins right after a session are normal. The redness typically takes about 15-30 minutes to subside. If you have persistent redness, longer than 1 hour, it's possible you scratched the inside part of your eyelid by accident. You'll have to contact your optometrist to check out the abrasion.

4. Do the Bristles Hurt?

  • Bristle Stiffness: The bristles in EYELID MARGIN SCRUB BRUSH are not like toothbrush bristles. They are firm for a reason. Some patients say it hurts. Some patents say it feels like scratching an itch - meaning, good. But know, the bristles will take getting used to.

5. How Hard Do I Scrub?

  • Pressure: Gentle. Soft. Light. Repeat. Pressing harder does not make the bleph/MGD go away faster. It just irritates the eyelid for no reason. Use short, gentle, soft strokes. The bristles do the work.

6. How Long Should Each Session Last?

  • Timing is Key: Use the brush for no more than 30 seconds per eyelid. With 4 eyelids, keep the total session under 2 minutes.

7. How Many Times Per Day?

  • Daily Use: Limit to just 1 session per day. Over scrubbing doesn't make the bleph/MGD go away faster. It just causes irritation.

8. The Bristles Hurt. What Can I Do?

  • Light Touch: Try this. Use a very, very light touch. Barely graze the eyelid margin. This will help your eyelids get used to the sensation. Always use one of my cleansing oils: Tea Tree (brown label, teal label) or Rosemary (green label). Do not use Eyelid Margin Scrub Brush without a cleansing oil.

9. Can Too Much Damage My Eye?

  • Do Not Over Scrub: The most common mistake is scrubbing too hard or doing multiple sessions per day. Gentle. Soft. Light. Once a day . . .  is all you need to avoid irritating the eyelid margin tissue.

10. Do I Have to Use a 10X Lighted Magnifying Mirror?

  • Precision Work: In the exam room I use a slit lamp microscope to do this detailed work. I don't care how good you think your eyes are. All my patients are required to use a 10X lighted magnifying mirror. They love this ONE.

Incorporating the EYELID MARGIN SCRUB BRUSH into your eye care regimen can be very rewarding.
