First, My Vitamin C Pet Peeves

At We Love Eyes, we’re proud to offer quality, eye safe ingredients in concentrations that are actually meaningful. One of my biggest pet peeves with formulating is that a company can list "VITAMIN C" on their label even though the concentration could be a meaningless 0.0001%. In addition that "VITAMIN C" could be an unstable form, rendering it completely useless. It's too easy to be fooled I guess.

Benefits of Vitamin C for Eyelid Skin

There are so many benefits! Vitamin C is a versatile and beneficial ingredient for eyelid skin health with the benefits for face translating to eyes. From offering protection against environmental damage, boosting collagen production, and improving skin tone and texture - I'm a big fan!

Problems of Vitamin C for Eyelid Skin

The most common issue I come across is when my patients start using their facial Vitamin C on their eye area too. Lots of dry, flakey, sensitive eyelid skin, and all of the sudden. This is damaged eyelid skin barrier! 

What I Think Makes a Great Vitamin C

According to me and my experience with patients, a great Vitamin C for eyelid skin meets these requirements:

1) Formulated in a hydrating base such as hyaluronic acid.

2) Formulated in the right concentration. High enough to garnish results. Low enough so as to not cause irritation or stripping of the lipid layer of the eyelid skin barrier. 

3) A stable Vitamin C that has a shelf life and meaningful results during the life of the package after opening. Not just results the first 10 days the package is opened.

4) An eye cream with Vitamin C should be packaged into an airless container to prolong the life of the Vitamin C.
